Although many applicants will have a fundamental knowledge of firearms, a basic course on marksmanship, handgun use and safety will ensure everyone receives the same information and will help increase the level of safety when the applicant gets to the range. This will also give the instructor an opportunity to inspect the applicant's handgun to ensure it is in safe working condition.
Ensure the applicant can demonstrate a good basic understanding of handgun safety, use, and marksmanship. The applicant will shoot from the three, seven, and fifteen yard lines in a standard course of fire and be required to attain a minimum of seventy percent.
Give a brief overview of the application process, and a more in-depth look at the requirements and restrictions of being a licensee.
This should demonstrate each applicant has received and understands basic required information. Those who fail to demonstrate this knowledge will require remedial training and will not be certified until they can demonstrate knowledge and proficiency at minimum standards set by the Department.
